Department profile:
About Department
The Department of Chemistry and Agrochemistry was one of the first departments established at the faculty. It was established in 1960. In 1972, the name was changed into the "Department of Chemistry". Inorganic, analytical and organic chemistry and biochemistry were taught there. The department was located in Šrámkova Street No. 9 till 1996. Since 1996, it has been located in a new building of the Academy of Sciences and at the University of South Bohemia, in Čtyři Dvory.
Since 1991, after the University of South Bohemia was founded, the department has extended its educational activities. It provides lessons for the Pedagogical Faculty, the Biological Faculty (the Faculty of Science since 2007) and the Faculty of Health and Social Studies too. Total number of subjects has increased, there are about twenty subjects nowadays. In 2009, the department’s name was changed. Since then, there is the Department of Applied Chemistry.
Employees of the department transfer their knowledge to specialists in many other sectors –agriculture, agricultural services, and education as well. They organize lectures and consultations for them.
Employees of the faculty could benefit from some programs. Two programs called COST 917 and 922 (Cooperation in Science and Technology) give them valuable opportunities for international meetings within the European Union. Employees of the department have participated in a lot of scientific meetings (they have arranged the meetings and have taken part in them too). For example, the 52nd Congress of the Czech and Slovak chemical societies took place in České Budějovice in 2000, the COST 917 conference took place in Prague in 1999. Participants in the conference came from 14 countries.
