About Department
The Department of Animal Husbandry Sciences is a guarantor of two Bachelor/Master study programmes called "Zootechnology" and "Agricultural biotechnology" and one Bachelor study programme called "Sustainable landscape farming systems". It is a guarantor of four Doctoral study programmes as well.
Elementary theoretical subjects are taught at the department. Students are provided with an elementary education in zootechnology, genetics, nutrition, anatomy and physiology of animals there. Specialised disciplines are offered at a higher level. They focus on animal husbandry. Such an educational complex also comprises subjects focusing on evaluation of quality of animal products, and healthy animal husbandry as well.
The Purpose-built Centre in Čtyři Dvory is a part of the department too. Most important species of animals are bred there. The centre focuses on the animals that have been animal genetic resources so far. Students receive operational and specialized practical training there. They may gain experience of animal breeding, treatment and feeding, and animal husbandry organization and management as well.
The department cooperates closely with the top Czech research institutes: Crop Research Institute in Prague-Uhříněves, Beef Cattle Husbandry Research Institute in Rapotín, and the International Animal Testing in Ústrašice. It also cooperates with some Czech and foreign universities in a project management (University of Agriculture in Prague, Mendel University in Brno, University in Nitra, universities in Poland – Olsztyn, Krakow, Wroclaw, and in Bydgoszcz, in Hungary – Veszprém, and in Russia as well - Moscow).
