About Department
The department is a guarantor of a study programme called "Agroecology". It is included in the Bachelor and the Master degree, in a full-time and a distance form of study too. A specialization programme is called "Organic farming". There are crucial subjects and issues of this study programme: pedology, agrochemistry, agrotechnology, organic farming, and non-production function of landscape and complex use of biomass.
Research activities of the department focus of sustainable farming systems applied in sub montane and montane areas. They aim at achieving harmony between the production and the non-production function and use of the systems. They mostly deal with innovations in arable land technologies. They seek good-quality crop production and they aim at using it for food, fodder, energy and other non-food processing purposes. Employees of the department participate in several projects of the Ministry of Agriculture, projects implemented by the Czech agencies (Czech Science Foundation, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports) and a lot of international projects (6th RP, INTERREG, EUS, COST).
Membership of the ENOAT (the European Network Organic Agriculture Teachers) is crucial for the department. It co-operates with 12 universities within the EU. It participates in many programmes - Leonardo, Aktion, Kontakt, CEEPUS. It has always aimed at exchanging teachers and students with all those partner universities and other research institutions. Annually, it organises the International Summer Schools, supportes conferences, and it provides several subjects in English too.
